Cone Beam 3D X-ray Unit
Dr. Lais’ staff just got trained on the new Cone Beam 3D X-ray technology. Learn more about the unit below and see photos from the staff’s hands-on training!
The Cone Beam allows a more precise measure for implants and tells exactly how much bone volume there is to work with. This is different than a 2 dimensional X-ray, which only shows the height of the bone.
The X-ray is also useful during surgical procedures like third molars and wisdom teeth extraction by showing exactly where the nerve lies in relation to the tooth. The biggest risk when removing third molars is damaging the nerve, which could cause permanent numbness. The Cone Beam X-ray decreases this risk exponentially.
Diagnoses are much more accurate and detailed with Cone Beam technology. Locating impacted teeth, cancerous lesions, and finding fraction lines after trauma such as a car wreck or sports injury are much easier with the new equipment.
Not only does the Cone Beam help with current dental work, but it also provides a way for dentists to view and treat past problems. For example, if a patient had a root canal and is still experiencing pain, the Cone Beam helps find additional roots that weren’t treated or possible fractured roots. A regular X-ray cannot show these symptoms.
Lastly, the machine aids TMJ patients in pain relief by providing great detail of the joint. It’s much easier for a doctor to determine the immediate treatment needed rather than trying a few treatments to see what helps the patient.
