iTero is a new technology used to take impressions of of the mouth. Instead of using a tray and putty, iTero simply takes the impression digitally. The teeth are scanned, and a hand-held wand is used to capture images of the tooth surfaces and gum tissue. The process can be stopped and started as many times as necessary and the digital impression is complete in approximately three to five minutes. Taking impressions this way is painless, especially when compared to the tray and putty method. There is no unpleasant taste, gagging, or anxiety for the patient. The completed scan is transferred to a computer program that builds a three-dimensional model of your teeth. The program also serves as a lab for further examination. The images can be enlarged and even projected onto screens so that the patient is able to see and understand clearly. This process is comfortable, quick, and highly accurate.
